Model 3: la Tesla best-seller si rinnova. Dimensioni, autonomia e design

European constructors call it ‘Restyling’ or ‘Life Cycle Improvement’, but Tesla wants to make it clear that it is not a new model. The Model 3 has been updated according to the needs and desires of Tesla customers who already own one, in order to stay on top. In over six years of sales, the Model 3 has been Tesla’s best-selling vehicle, with over two million units sold without any changes. Officially presented at the end of March 2016, the Model 3 has remained loyal to itself. Therefore, there are small adjustments, without altering a successful model, updating safety, technology, comfort, and refinement.
At first glance, the Model 3 still looks the same. The body features slightly sharper lines and aerodynamically optimized surfaces. The front and rear lights have been completely redesigned, with the rear light clusters integrated into the electrically operated tailgate and the front lights thinner to aid airflow. The front loses the characteristic Aston Martin-style line of the bumper and appears flatter and smoother to promote aerodynamics. The Model 3 is offered in two new colors, Ultra Red and Stealth Gray, at an additional cost of two thousand euros, while Electric Blue is available as standard. These small changes contribute to an overall 8% increase in efficiency, resulting in ranges of 513 and 629 km for the Model 3 and Model 3 Long Range, respectively.
Despite the aesthetic update, Tesla has kept the characteristics that have made the Model 3 so popular. High range and efficiency remain priorities, ensuring long distances between charges. The sporty performance should be maintained even though the new suspensions have been designed to optimize comfort. The first cars arriving from China will be available for test drives by the end of October, even before the vehicle is marketed in the USA.
Inside the Model 3, comfort and technology reach a new level. The interior is still minimalist but now offers an even more premium feel with genuine aluminum inserts and high-quality fabrics. The large 15.4-inch central screen remains bright and responsive, with a slimmer frame that increases the usable surface area, and the small steering wheel integrates a few buttons on the spokes to handle Autopilot and infotainment, in addition to those for turn signals. The levers behind the steering wheel have disappeared. The gear lever is also gone, replaced by the Smart Shift system that automatically engages forward/reverse gears if there are no obstacles in front/back of the vehicle (the same system as in the Model S and Model X). It is still possible to choose the direction of travel from the display by swiping the finger on the left edge in the desired direction, and in case of a screen malfunction, there is an invisible button integrated into the overhead light near the courtesy lights. Speaking of lights, the ambient lights can now be customized in color. The front seats can be ventilated (as requested by Tesla customers), in addition to being heated like all other seats.
One of the most significant improvements concerns the quietness of the cabin. Thanks to double soundproofed windows, suspension bushings, and optimized soundproofing materials, traffic noise disappears – Tesla promises – allowing occupants to enjoy a quiet and pleasant driving experience. The new central console, covered in aluminum, offers ample storage compartments and a dual wireless charger for smartphones. With a front USB-C charging port and two rear ports, connectivity is simple and fast.
The sound inside the Model 3 has reached new heights of quality with a premium audio system designed by Tesla with 17 speakers, two subwoofers, and two amplifiers for the Long Range trim. In addition, native support for Spotify, Apple Music, and Tidal ensures an unprecedented entertainment experience. The new Model 3 now offers a 50% improved cellular capacity, with doubled Wi-Fi coverage and dual-band Wi-Fi functionality. OTA software updates can be performed even faster.
Finally, safety is a must for Elon Musk and his team. The new Model 3 adopts a new side impact damage containment system (as required by the latest US regulations) to eliminate or mitigate the effects of a collision on the battery. All this at practically the same prices as the outgoing model: 24,490 euros for the Model 3 and 49,990 euros for the Long Range, before incentives.
